Are you up to date with 2012 festival season trends?

When packing for a festival there will be the obligatory must haves which will include a selection of comfortable tees and vests, shorts, wellies and of course a good rain mac.  There is and always will be those who prefer the easy come easy go attitude to festival fashion which adds to the atmosphere but for those a little more concerned here are some new popular fashion trends you might want try for the 2012 festival season.

Shorts

We’re talking denim cut offs and lots of leg. From USA-flag prints, lace and leather versions, block pastels to the standard Levis or black versions, there’s a pair for you. Perfect for outdoor festivals and easy to team with tights and boots to combat the British brisk winds.

Feathers

Feathered jewellery like earrings and necklaces are a must for an updated festival look this summer. Team a pair of long feathered earring’s with braided locks for a summery hippy vibe.

Crop tops

Still bang on trend and what way to better beat the heat. Team with denim shorts or a long maxi skirt and a cute braided belt. Its light, comfy and one of Y.F.I favourite looks for this summer.

Polka Dots

Polka dots were spread across the Spring 2012 runways. A floaty polka dot dress is a great option for daytime festival wear.

Fringe

Evidence Jimi Hendrix knew his stuff, still trending decades on, fringe! It looks great on clothing and cross body bags and will immediately update a plain outfit. It screams festival chick.

Round Lennon Sunglasses

They are back and all the rage this season. Think Lady Gaga or Mary-Kate Olsen.

Sun Hats

The perfect festival accessory as they are a great way of hiding hair that hasn’t seen water, shampoo or had a brush for days.

Gladiator Sandals

Lets face it, its ethier a choice between your gladiator sandals or your wellies. If the weather prevails gladiator sandals will keep you cool and looking stylish.

Headbands

If you don’t fancy a sun hat there are plenty of festival ready headbands. Fancy channeling your 60’s goddess vibe go try a band of flowers. Tied up hair teamed with a headband will be ideal for when your reach the final stages of the festival.

For the lads

The most popular choice for lads in basic styles and shades and to then jazz them up a bit with clashing colours and prints. This will make your outfit festival fitting and exciting. As for hats I would advise straw or cotton fabrics in pale shades.

Now of course, Hunter wellies are a staple festival must have (thank you Kate Moss) and don’t forget your printed graphic tee. Floral prints are still on trend and ideal if you like the 1960‘s summery chick vibe and Topshop has an incredible range of blossoming prints ready for the festival season. Another idea is also to check out the charity shops, bearing in mind were talking UK festivals here you must be prepared rain or shine and a couple of pieces from a charity at a bargain buy are ideal for the festival season, old denim and floral print shirts galore. Remember it is important to look as if you are dressed for a festival not like everyone at the festival so wearing quirky individual accessories will help you avoid looking like a clone.

Oh and don’t forget the Tie dye.

Okay it might be because I’m a total virgin when it comes to festivals etc. I like the article, but I always think to myself when I read stuff like this, do people go to this effort and buy this when it either gets lost, stolen or trampled in mud/mixture of all three. I agree with some of your point, it just baffles me how people can still go out and buy stuff like this (especially when the prices get crammed up especially for it)

Maybe it’s just a sign of how little money I have to burn :p

I understand your points, some are more fashion conscious at festivals than others perhaps trying stores such as Primark and H&M, who i go to for all my festival clothing. I hope this helps and you go to a festival soon.

Love this, festival fashion is one of my favourite trends ever and you’ve summed it up so well!

Ben I understand where you are coming from, with more pressure to look good at particular festivals some festival goers prefer to spend a little extra on fashion. They are weekends to be enjoyed and there definitely is no specific dress code so don’t feel pressured to buy expensive pieces. I have advised charity shops because they can supply excellent quirky pieces and accessories at a bargain price.

fringing and crop tops are my favourite summer and festival garms this year! topshop have some great little vest crop tops and i saw a lovely fringed crop top in there the other day – a result combining the two!

I’m with Ben on this one. I’m barely fashionable at the best of times… if I was planning on going to a festival it would jeans, t-shirt, and welly’s all the way!

  • Laraballard

runway dreamz is amazing for cut offs!

  • AUKFestivalInsight

Thank you Laraballard for the recommendation.

Luke Trimmings, I am glad to hear you have found your festival style! Sometimes simple is simply better!
